Works at the Churchill Arms 2025
4th January 2025

In March 2022 our beautiful local pub, The Churchill Arms, suffered a catastrophic fire.

Following a 2 year campaign supported by our local MP we were delighted to learn that restoration works are due to commence in early 2025 (exact date to be confirmed).
This will involve ongoing building works across the road from The Old Mission Church for approximately 12 months.
The builders, heritage specialists Savvy Construction, have told us that their working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am till 5pm and they will not be working at weekends.
They have also rented some space in a field elsewhere in the village for parking, so we do not think there will be many site vehicles on the roads around the pub, and certainly none at weekends.
Because the walls of the church are very thick, and every window has secondary glazing, it’s naturally very quiet and we think that once inside guests won’t be able to hear any significant noise from the works.
However guests may hear some noise when outside and when arriving and departing, and parking directly opposite the Church may be more restricted during weekday working hours.

Our approach
Based on what we know so far we think the impact on guest will be minimal but feel its best to be very transparent to ensure guests are not disappointed in any way.
• We believe guests staying for 2 night weekends will be completely unaffected.
• For guests staying for 3 night weekends there is a small overlap on Monday morning (between 8am and the 10am checkout) so are offering a 10% discount on our 2025 rate card.
• Guests staying for for 4 nights or more, either at weekends or midweek will probably be more aware of the work so we are offering a 15% discount.

The discounts are added automatically on the 2nd page of our booking form and currently end on the 22th December 2025.
Once work has started we should have a better idea of the day to day realities and will update this page and if necessary amend the offer.
